About Us

Our History

After obtaining his masters degree from the University of Chicago School of Social Services Administration in 1972, Bart Ellis, LCSW, worked for seven years providing mental health services to individuals residing in the Los Angeles area.

Frustrated with the “revolving door” model of health services, Bart looked for an alternative model that would be more effective, user friendly and provide an opportunity for self-contained success. Using a brilliant treatment model borrowed from the NIMH Research Program in Madison, Wisconsin, Mr. Ellis created and designed one of the first in-vivo mental health treatment programs in the Los Angeles area.

Regional Center soon became aware of these services and subsequently contacted Mr. Ellis asking him to design specific services for its consumers. After working with Regional Center consumers for several years, Bart found that the in-vivo treatment model was most effective when used to treat children with disabilities, primarily those children diagnosed as “Autistic.”

To serve this end, Behavioral Health Consultants (BHC) was incorporated in 1985 for the specific intent of providing state-of-the-art Applied Behavior Analysis treatment services to autistic children, while cultivating a parent or caregiver-centric environment designed to increase instances of success due to what can be thought of as constant treatment whether or not a therapist was present.

BHC continues to provide these services to both Regional Center and various school districts, as well as through private referrals.

Our Mission

To provide specific, high quality ABA treatment services to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Our Staff

Among our highly-qualified Therapists and Clinical Supervisors, BHC's Staff includes ABA and/or Program Supervisors who are Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) who are key professionals with specialized graduate training designed to guarantee competence in ABA therapy. In addition to a formal education, hands-on training, and a Board certification exam, these professionals must also maintain their knowledge base, as demonstrated through continuing study. If you are a brilliant, highly-qualified BCBA who is interested in employment, feel free to contact us.
