Our History
Bart Ellis, LCSW, (University of Chicago
School of Social Service Administration A.M.
1972,) worked for seven years after graduate
school providing mental health services to
individuals residing in the Los Angeles area.

Frustrated with the “revolving door” model
of health services, Bart looked for an
alternative model that would be more
effective and “user friendly.” Using a
successful treatment model borrowed from a
NIMH Research Program in Madison,
Wisconsin, Bart created and designed one of
the first in-vivo mental health treatment
programs in the Los Angeles area. Regional
Center soon became aware of these services
and subsequently contacted Bart asking him
to design specific services for Regional Center
consumers. After working with Regional
Center consumers for several years, Bart
found that the in-vivo treatment model was
most effective when used to treat children
with disabilities, primarily those children
diagnosed as “autistic.” To serve this end,
BHC was incorporated in 1985, for the specific
intent of providing “state-of-the-art” ABA
treatment services, primarily for autistic
children.

BHC continues to provide these services to
both Regional Center, School District and
private referrals.  BHC is also a certified and
approved State of California, Non-Public
agency. Bart Ellis, LCSW is a Board Certified
Diplomat in Clinical Social Work.

BHC's Staff includes a Board Certified
Behavior analyst i.e. BCBA. This is a professional
who has documented graduate training and
supervised, hands-on experience in applied
behavior analysis, and has passed a special
examination in this area. This voluntary
certification assures you that the professional
has basic, general competence in applied
behavior analysis. Professionals with master’s
or doctoral degrees who are certified under
this program are called Board Certified
Behavior Analysts (BCBA).
